today we are gathering with all of the 8th grade students from the gear up cohort middle schools I have 17 options so all of the schools are gathered today to meet and greet with their prospective students the entire 7th grade and 8th grade class of Virgil Middle School is in Gear Up cohort which means that for the next 6 years we will follow them from Virgil Middle School to their High School in the Belmont zone of choice and then service them in that first Griff College in addition we have some former Gear Up students that are now in college but if come to speak to our students about what it's like to have Gear Up For All what is yours and what college is really like in many different ways in a sense of how to apply for college what to look for when a things I have to focus stop into a transition from high-school to college getting all the information I had to enter College in and I remember all the trips that they sent us to Isle remember the UCLA trip that we went to in and it was really insightful experience to me personally they gave me a kind of foundation so that I can pursue what I'm doing now and be then I'm at where I'm at opportunities at definitely expanded my horizons on which colleges I want to go to can you choose which school to actually go I know we took a field trip to Cal State Fullerton and I fell in love with it so it really helps me with the decision I made where I am today figura program is an amazing program because we get to follow kids from their sixth and seventh grade year all the way to that first year of college can we get to work with them on figuring out the college is a reality and is a must for them
